Now operated by American Airlines Group, Inc. after the predecessor parent company AMR Corporation filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in late 2011, the new operation includes a recent merger with US Airways Group, the operator of US Airways. Their current slogan “Building the new American, Together.” speaks for itself as the goal of this transaction is to create what is determined to be the largest airline in the world, a mega airline that will change the way people travel.

When you fly with American Airlines, you can essentially get to any destination. The airline company has joint ventures for transatlantic routes with British Airways, Iberia, and Finnair. The airline also has joint ventures to provide transpacific routes to their passengers with Japan Airlines and Qantas.

American Airlines’ fleet consists of a romping 616 aircrafts. They also have well over 67 million members on their frequent flyer program, AAdvantage. Based on the commitment and amount of miles accumulated with their flyer program, travellers will be placed in either AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, or AAdvantage Executive Platinum. Members receive complementary services as well as priority boarding, separate check-ins, and even free upgrades when applicable. Some of these privileges and services may be used with American Airlines’ partner airlines within the Oneworld alliance.

On Board American Airlines

American makes it easy for people to travel. With just four flight classes, 2 of them being business, travellers can make their decision within just a matter of minutes. The airline offers Economy Class with the recent addition of the Main Cabin Extra which is a premium Economy. Those travelling with economy will be charged five dollars for headsets on domestic flights. On international flights, passengers can expect to receive them for free.
Depending on the destination one is travelling to, some passengers with the premium Economy class may sit in the business class area, however will receive economy services and may not take advantage of the complimentary service offered otherwise for Business Class travellers.

American Airlines Business Class Flights

Aside from economy, a Domestic First Class option is available for those travelling within the United States. Passengers of this class will have a seat with a 39 to 40 inch pitch, a cabin duvet, power ports, and Bose headsets.

Their second flight class is Business class which is primarily offered on the larger aircrafts such as the 777, 767, and 757. The seats in business class recline to a 171 degree angle, allowing for passengers to comfortably lay and sleep. There is approximately a 59 inch seat pitch. Soon, the airline will begin implementing a 180 degree recline with much wider seats. When flying into London Heathrow, passengers travelling with business class on international and transcontinental flights will receive access to the Admirals Club and lounge.

The last and most luxurious class is the Flagship Suite First Class. This is offered only on the B777-300ER. Passengers travelling in this class will receive a countless number of amenities

Economy Class

Economy Class on American Airlines was voted “Best Economy/Coach Class” at the OAG Airline Industry Awards in 2008. Seats are fitted with six way adjustable headrests and overhead lockers have been extended to ensure that all cabin baggage can be comfortably accommodated.

The airline company serves their travellers with the option of 2 lounges, the Admirals Club and the Flagship Lounge. The Admiral Club has long been visited by famous celebrities, powerful politicians, as well as the average traveller that has shown a commitment to the airline for their travel needs. Previously, members of the club were able to join after receiving an invitation. However, after a few controversies and one lawsuit, the airline switched over to paid memberships. Now, travellers can purchase a membership to American Airlines Admirals club for anywhere from $250 to $400 per year. The price is based on the persons frequent flyer program level. Passengers that wish to experience the lounge and not pay a high annual fee can purchase a 24 hour pass for $50. Closely affiliated with the Admiral Club is the second lounge, the Flagship Lounges. Although they are operated by the same staff members, the lounges are completely separate.
Unlike the Admiral Club, the Flagship Lounge provides guests with free alcoholic beverages, complimentary buffet entrées such as breakfast, lunch salads, snacks and many other foods to choose from. These lounges also offer travellers complimentary computer terminals, Wi-Fi access, and best of all, shower facilities to freshen up in.
