The best way to get around Washington D.C. is by foot or by bicycle. With the main sites so close together, there really is no need to use any other form of transport.

Most visitors flock immediately to the Mall, which links most of the major attractions. Walking through the parklands of the Mall you can see the iconic buildings and statues for which most tourists come to see.

See the Capitol, with its proud and stately white dome, the iconic and symbolic White House, and the Reflecting Pool. Admire a plethora of mighty monuments, including the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Franklin Delano Rossevelt Memorial, and the Jefferson Memorial. There are also monuments erected to honour those killed during battle - they include the Korean War Veterans Memorial and the Vietnam War Memorial. Visit an impressive selection of museums. Some of the top museums in the area include the National Gallery of Art, the Holocaust Museum, the National Museum of Natural History, and the National Air and Space Museum. Other museums close by include the International Spy Museum, the National Archives, the National Portrait Gallery, and the American Art Museum.

In other parts of the city you will find the stunning Libarary of Congress, the incredible National Zoo, and the gigantic National Cathedral. In Georgetown you can enjoy a walk through some lovely old colonial buildings.

The closet airport to Washington D.C. is Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Visitors may also arrive in the city via the large and busy Washington Dulles International Airport. Another alternative is the slightly further afield Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. Trains connect the capital to the rest of the country. Buses link Washington D.C. to numerous national destinations; the most popular route is from Washington D.C. to Boston, via Philadelphia and New York.
