The Soyh Korean capital city of Seoul is a place of true juxtaposition. Fascinating buildings sit alongside lifeless grey blocks, ancient traditions mingle with modern state of the art technology, and the atmosphere is somehow similarly individual and conformist. Nightlife is eclectic with an abundance of places to go, and the dining scene is diverse, with gourmet restaurants, street sellers, and everything in the middle.
Skyscrapers line the horizon, and reconstructed temples and palaces provide a snapshot of Seoul in days gone by.
Seoul boasts five main wonderful palaces, each worthy of a visit. There are a number of pleasant parks, including Olympic Park and Namsan Park. Forests and mountains are easily accessible, and are great for hiking and other outdoor leisure pursuits. Amongst Seoul's lovely temples and shrines are the Jongmyo Shrine, Bongeun Temple, and Jogye Temple. Mount Inwang is home to Inwang Temple and the Guksadang Shaman Shrine. Go and see Namdaemun and the other old city gates.
Seodaemun Prison was notorious during the days of Japanese occupation, being used to house, torture, and kill inmates. The Korean Folk Village is a great cultural attraction. For the best panoramic views, head over to N Seoul Tower.
For thrills and spills, fun, and excitement check out one of Seoul's amusement parks. Everland is Korea's answer to Disney, with rides, stalls, and a mini zoo. The indoor Lotte World is perfect whatever the weather. Others include Seoul Land and the Children's Grand Park.
The main airport for the city is Incheon, with Gimpo Airport serving a few Asian cities. Ferries run to China, and trains and buses can be taken across the country. The subway is the best way to explore the city, though there are also buses and taxis.
