On the Hawaiian island of Oahu you will find the capital city of Honolulu. Images of pristine beaches, grass skirts, hula girls, and a tropical paradise immediately spring to mind. Visitors will not be disappointed. Although far from quiet and peaceful, the lively city is home to many great places.
The world famous Waikiki Beach is an essential day or two, possibly more! A premier tourist spot in Hawaii, it offers beautiful white sands, clear waters, and a superb mountain backdrop. It is great for sunbathing, swimming, surfing, body boarding, and canoeing. There are other great beaches around Honolulu – the trouble may be choosing which one to visit next!
Natural scenery is everywhere you look. Diamond Head is a volcanic crater that looms over the city. The Punchbowl Crater provides great views of the downtown area. The Haluna Blowhole is an interesting site; an underwater cave shoots water through a hole at the top.
Pearl Harbour is in the city. It was the turning point for the USA entering the Second World War when Japanese Forces, on 7th of December 1941, bombed the harbour. It is a naval base and a torist attraction today, with respectful memorials, including the USS Arizona Memorial constructed over the sunken USS Arizona battleship. Next door is a submarine.
The city's airport is the way that most people enter Hawaii. There is also a cruise port. You can get around the city by bus, taxi, and car. The roads can be busy though and they are not on a grid system.
After hours bars, clubs, and theatres provide ample entertainment.
