Hamburg, GermanyGermany's Hamburg is a truly international city that really knows how to pack a punch. It offers the full package for visitors; top class attractions, culture, modern delights, historical sites, great shopping, varied cuisine, and a lively eclectic night scene.

Airport Hamburg Fuhlsbuttel offers domestic and international flights. Hamburg Uetersen Airport operates flights to several German islands. Airport Lubeck Blankensee lies some 65 kilometres outside of the city and is used by budget carriers. There are five major train stations in the city and it is well connected by rail. Buses operate to other German destinations as well as various cities throughout Europe. Carpooling is a popular way to travel around Germany, and you can also drive your own car. There is also a large hitchhiking culture. Hamburg has an exceptionally good public transport network, with frequent buses serving many local destinations all throughout the day and night. Local trains, taxis, and bicycles are other options for getting around the city.

The harbour is at the heart of the city.

Hamburg has five main churches; St Jacobi, St Petri, St Nikolai, St Michaelis, and St Katharinen. The tower at St Michaelis Church provides very good views of the surrounding city areas.

The neo-Renaissance City Hall is an impressive palacial building, constructed from sandstone and with a large clock tower. The interesting Chilehaus is built to resemble a ship. The Hamburg Dungeon is not for the faint hearted! Children will enjoy Hamburg Zoo.

Hamburg is home to numerous statues, monuments, and sculptures. There are also many museums and galleries.

As well as lakes and rivers, there are some small beaches alongside the River Elbe. Swimming is possible, although not usual, and the sandy edges provide great picnicking and BBQ spots.

The Reeperbahn is home to an enormous red light district, and it is popular with tourists.

Near to Alsterarkaden Canal you will find many indoor shopping precincts. The main shopping area is at Monckebergstrasse.
