Bourke, AustraliaAustralia's city of Bourke is in the state of New South Wales. It sits on the banks of the Darling River and is a historic inland port.

Planes are available to Bourke from Dubbo. Buses also travel to Dubbo, where one can continue by rail to Sydney if desired. Most visitors find that having their own means of transport in the city is incredibly useful.

You can experience the rugged wilds of Australia's famous and desolate Outback from Bourke.

There are several places to visit in and around the city. The Back O Bourke Exhibition is in a pretty natural setting and allows visitors to travel back in time through Australia's history, learn more about the city, and experience life in, and legends of, the Outback. Take a stroll over Bourke Bridge and visit Australia's first lock. You can see an old Crossley engine at the wharf.

Old buildings in the city include the Courthouse, the Post Office, the Old London Bank, and the Post Office Hotel. St Ignatius Catholic Church is one of the city's oldest buildings. The Bourke Historic Cemetery is also worth a peek.

Journey to the top of Mount Oxley and see great views of the open wild areas. Mount Oxley is also an important Aboriginal site.

Mount Gundabooka has some fabulous Aboriginal rock paintings and is home to a rich selection of wildlife. As well as great views you can also enjoy some terrific hiking.
