The Olgas, a fantastic range of rock domes, are also in the same area. The native name means Earth Mother.
The area is known as the Red Centre because of the spectacularly breath taking natural colours of the rocks. As daylight starts to fade and the sun starts to set, the normal reddish brown of the rocks appear to change to a bluey violet colour. Try and see both a sunset and a sunrise at Ayers Rock; at sunrise it is fiery red.
