Situated on New Zealand's North Island, Auckland is a large and sprawling city; it is the biggest metropolitan area in the whole country.
Today Auckland is a modern city. It was initially inhabited by Maoris and then Tamaki tribes, before Europeans arrived at the start of the 1800s, so has a great heritage and blend of cultures.
