Virgin Atlantic Airlines

Virgin Atlantic - Airline Information

Virgin Atlantic operates long-haul routes between the United Kingdom and North America, the Caribbean, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, and Australia, connecting services in Australia run by Virgin Blue. Virgin Atlantic had been operating flights from Sydney to Hong Kong since 2004. Although this service may change as of 2014.

Why Fly On Virgin Atlantic Airways

In case you didn’t notice, a few of the Virgin Atlantic aircraft were featured in two James Bond movies in 2006 and 2008. Even its 51% majority owner, Sir Richard Branson and his crew, had a small role in one of the movies.
Virgin Atlantic was founded in 1984 and is the seventh largest UK airline in regards to passenger volume.
They service flights from its main hub at Gatwick and secondary hubs at London Heathrow and Manchester.
The other 49% of the company is owned by Delta Airlines and their biggest competitor is British Airways. Their fleet size consists of 39 aircraft, most of which are the Airbus A340-600 and Boeing 747-400. They have 16 new Boeing 787-9’s and 6 Airbus 380-800’s on order that are expected to arrive in 2014 and 2018.
In addition, Virgin Atlantic has been very busy trying to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and trying to cut fuel consumption by testing their engines using plant-based biofuel.

On Board Virgin Atlantic Airways

Three classes of service and seating are offered on board Virgin Atlantic Airways; Economy, Premium Economy and Upper Class.

The in-flight entertainment offered on Virgin Atlantic for all passengers in all classes of seats have personal seat back monitors and the newer aircraft such as the Boeing 747–400 and the Airbus A 330–300 offer a Vera touch screen which allows you to access movie programs, music and video games via a touchscreen control. Other aircraft offer Vera on demand including movies, entertainment television programs, music and video games.
Economy Class seating is basic, standard and comfortable, with a seat pitch of 31 inches depending on the type of aircraft you fly. The newer seats are fully adjustable with lumbar support. Meals and in-flight entertainment are included along with headsets.

Virgin Atlantic Airways makes sure you are traveling in comfort with the Premium Economy seats in a class of its own. Seats are made of luxurious leather, including more width and comfort with extra leg room. Seat pitch is 38 inches and with the headrest, leg rest and lumbar support, it's just like a comfortable armchair. A power supply is provided at the seat for laptops and other electronic devices. Premium dining on the Premium Economy includes three delicious main courses to choose from and a huge selection of wines to accompany your meal. In addition, there is a liqueur waiting for you after dinner alongside with your coffee.

Virgin Atlantic Business Class / Upper Class

Upper class service and seating is pure luxury, so be prepared to be spoiled. This class is a mix of Business Class and First Class service. Arranged in a herringbone pattern for more privacy, the beautiful leather seats convert into a fully flat bed that is 6’6” long and considered one of the longest in any business class. In addition, the seat converts from 22 inches wide to 33 inches wide when flat for more sleep comfort. In-seat power and storage is provided for laptops and other devices. Enjoy the entertainment on your own 10.4-inch flat screen monitor.

The newer Upper Class suites are even more luxurious and comfortable with new stylish cabins along with leather seats that convert into a fully flat bed and a comfort system with extra padding. Seats also have more reclining capability. Included is a 12.1-inch touchscreen monitor and a touchscreen handset.

A larger menu selection is provided along with a fancy in-flight bar serving drinks throughout your flight and bar stools to sit and socialize with others on board.

Premium Economy Class

In the “Best Premium Economy Class” section at the Business Traveller Awards in 2007, Virgin Atlantic’s Premium Economy was the winner. A seat width of 21 inches means that the seat is comparable with seats in Business Class in many other airlines. A choice of meals is available, along with an after dinner liqueur. Passengers receive priority boarding and priority baggage reclaim.

Economy Class

Passengers in Economy class receive free drinks and meals, seatback televisions offering video games, movies and tv shows and a free amenity kit. Seats have an average pitch of 31 inches.
