Turkish Airlines

Why Fly On Turkish Airline

Founded in 1933, Turkish Airlines’ main office and hub are located at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul. They also service three secondary hubs within Turkey. Considered the 4th largest carrier in the world by number of destinations at 342, Turkish Airlines has been a part of the Star Alliance since 2008. They were called Turkair up until 2008 and replaced it with Turkish Air.

After suffering a long history of struggles, difficulties and financial losses throughout the late 70’s and late 1980’s, growth began for Turkish Airlines around the mid 90’s as they began launching more flights to North American. They also began dealing with some heavy competition and decided to team up with several other airlines thru marketing partnerships to become more competitive.

The airline decided to expand tremendously in 2004 with a huge purchase of 51 aircraft and invested in new technical and training facilities in order to be ready to maintain these aircraft.
As of December of 2013 their fleet comprises 224 passenger aircraft, most of which are the Airbus A321-200 and Airbus A320-200, in addition to 9 cargo aircraft

Turkish Airlines has many sponsorship programs with many athletic leagues as well as many sponsorship and promotion deals with renowned athletes and actors. In fact the main front page of their website currently displays Lionel Messi and Kobe Bryant.

After all that they have been through, Turkish Airlines won the Skytrax awards for Europe’s Best Airline, Southern Europe’s Best Airline, and the World’s Best Premium Economy Class Airline Seat for three years in a row, in 2011,2012, and 2013. In 2013 they were named the Airline of the Year by Air Transport News during their Awards Ceremony.
