Why Fly with SilkAir
SilkAir is a regional airline that was founded in 1976 and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Singapore Airlines. The airline flies mostly short haul flights. Their main hub is at Singapore Changi Airport. The airline doesn’t belong to any alliance networks, however they do have codeshare agreements with 6 other airlines. For two consecutive years in a row, the airline has won the Best Regional Airline award at the World Airline Awards in 2009 and 2010. The SilkAir fleet consists of a total of 24 aircraft, most of which comprise the Airbus A320-200 aircraft. In addition, with plans to expand, the airline has ordered 23 of the Boeing 737-800 and 31 of the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.
SilkAir Flights and Destinations
SilkAir flies to over 45 destinations in 12 countries in Asia from its main hub in Singapore. It flies to destinations in China, Philippines, India, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia and more.
On Board SilkAir
Two classes of seating and service are offered on board SilkAir; Economy Class and Business Class. In-flight entertainment includes plenty of magazines and newspapers and an overhead drop down screen featuring specially selected short movies. The airline has also been testing a new wireless in-flight entertainment system that allows passengers to stream movies through their laptops or smartphones. On board dining includes a complimentary welcome drink along with local delights and Oriental and Western menu including a nice selection of wines. Economy Class offers ergonomically designed seats that include standard widths and a pitch of 32 inches between seats and include legroom of approximately 11 inches.
SilkAir Business Class
Business Class seating offers luxurious and stylish leather seating on some aircraft with focus and attention to enhanced personal space and comfort to relax, work or sleep. The ergonomically designed seats include a pitch of 39 - 40 inches and leg room of almost 20 inches.
SilkAir Frequent Flyer
The frequent flyer program that SilkAir maintains is called KrisFlyer, and miles are earned with SilkAir or Singapore Airlines and over 140 global partners. There are three tier levels that can be achieved. The PPS Club is the exclusive recognition program for members who travel frequently in premium classes on Singapore and SilkAir.
Access to various lounge facilities at SilkAir destinations is available for PPS Club members, KrisFlyer Elite Gold members and SilkAir Business Class passengers. Lounges offer a lush and comfortable environment to relax or work in.
