Why Fly On Germanwings
This low-cost German airlines is a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa since 2009, although the airline was originally founded in 2009. Germawings services flights from its main hubs at Cologne Bonn Airport, Stuttgart Airport, Berlin Tegel Airport, and Hamburg Airport as well Dusseldorf Airport, Hannover Airport and Dortmund Airport. Currently, Germanwings has a total fleet size of 54 aircraft, most of which are the Airbus A319-100 with 33 aircraft on order. Recently Lufthansa transferred all of their short haul flights that were operating outside of their main hubs at Frankfurt and Munich over to Germanwings.

On Board Germanwings
Three types of classes and seating are offered on Germanwings, depending on the duration and the type of aircraft flown. The BASIC fare would be comparable to the standard Economy Class offered on other airlines. It is a no frills ticket that only includes air fare. If you desire a seat selection or wish to upgrade to another Class, you will be charged an additional fee. There is an extra cost for additional luggage beyond the one that is allowed. All food, snacks and beverages served on board is available for purchase. SMART fare seating is situated more toward the front and seating offers more leg room. Additional luggage is allowed and meals, snacks and drinks are all complimentary on board as well as access to some of the lounges depending on the frequent flyer tier level reached. The extra Flex-option is available allowing you to cancel or re book your flights anytime, free of charge.
Germanwings Business Class
The BEST fare is the premium category that is mostly used by business travelers on select flights. Seats offer more leg room with the adjacent seat vacant allowing for more privacy. All food and drink is included with a la carte catering. The extra Flex-option is available and especially a great option for business travelers that often have to change their schedules.
Although the airline doesn’t operate any lounges under the Germanwings name, passengers who have booked the BEST fare tickets and frequent flyer members that have booked the SMART fare are allowed access to Lufthansa Lounges along with HON Circle members and Senators on all Germanwings flights, including partner lounges in Germany and Europe.
Germanwings Frequent Flyer
The Boomerang Club is the frequent flyer program of Germanwings. In addition, Germanwings is a partner of Miles and More thus allowing you to use the miles you’ve collected with Germanwings in the Miles and More program and fly to any of over 100 destinations. In addition to earning miles on flights, you can also earn miles with various hotels, car rental and other retail partners. Benefits vary depending on the tier level reached.
