Air India has a long history since their formation in 1930 as Tata Airlines. It is the only state owned airline in the country and run by the Government thru Air India Limited (AIL). However, they are the national airline for India and one of the most extensive flight service providers in India. Their two main hubs are located at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai. They also have two secondary hubs in Chennai and Kolkata. Air India has received several awards and recognitions in the past. Subsidiaries of Air India include Air India Express and Air India Regional. Their fleet size includes 111 passenger aircraft in addition to the 19 Airbus A320-200ís on order. Most of their fleet include 62 of the Airbus 300 family of aircraft, of which 24 are the A319-100, 20 are the A321-200, and 18 include the Airbus 320-200 aircraft. They operate 6 Boeing 747ís, 20 of the Boeing 777ís and 8 of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 27 on order. They have not joined any alliances yet but are expected to join the Star Alliance network of airlines sometime in 2014. However, they have suffered some financial setbacks in 2012 due in part to some fierce competition from other low cost airlines.

On Board Air India
Three classes of service and seating are offered on board Air India and they include First Class, Business Class and Economy Class. First Class is on their Boeing 747-700, and some of the Boeing 777ís. The First Class cabin seats anywhere between 4 to 12 passengers depending on the size of the aircraft. All offer spacious cabins including plush carpeting. The seating is 23-inches wide and when reclined to a full flat bed position at 180 degrees, the bed is 77 inches long and 31 inches wide. The seat pitch is a minimum of 80-inch providing for maximum leg room. A wide screen monitor for your in-flight entertainment is included. Meals are served along with cocktails and champagne.
In-flight entertainment includes a large variety of movies, TV shows, news channels, games and music to choose from. Boeing uses the Thales Audio/Video on Demand system offering a wider selection of English and Hindu movies.
In- flight dining offers an assortment of Indian cuisine offering a blend of their exotic spices and herbs from different regions of India. Included are vegetarian and non-vegetarian choices. India Air does its best to accommodate all dietary needs some of which are low salt, Gluten-free, Vegan, Seafood and much more. However, special meal requests need to be made a minimum of 48 hours prior to flight departure. A variety of beverages are also offered but alcoholic beverages are not offered on domestic flights.
Most of the Economy Class seating offered includes a 20.5 inch wide seat and seat pitches vary on the type and size of aircraft and can range from 32-33 inches. In addition most of the seats recline about 6-inches.
Air India Business Class Flights
Business class seating can vary on Air India, depending on the type of aircraft. Typically, the Boeing 747-400 aircraft have 21 inch wide seats with seat pitches of 57-59 inches and include a 158-degree recline. The longer Boeing 777-200LR aircraft offer much longer pitches at 76 inches but not as wide at 19.5 inches. They do however recline to a full flat bed position and include a divider that can be used for more privacy. The Airbus A330-200 aircraft offers Business Class seating that is 27.5 inches wide and recline to a fully flat bed position and a seat pitch of 52 inches.
Air India Lounges
The Maharaja Lounges are at 6 major destinations of Air India. Four of these lounges are in India and the remaining 2 lounges are located internationally, one at London Heathrow and the other at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York These lounges are available for use by Business Class passengers and First Class passengers and certain tiered frequent flyer members. Air India also shares lounges with other international airlines at airports that are non-Maharaja lounges. Lounges offer self-service buffets serving a variety of food, including appetizers, fruits and desserts and bar counters also offering a wide variety of beverages such as tea, coffee and soft drinks. Most facilities offer free wireless internet connection and provide TV in the lounge area along with reclining comfortable lounge chairs. Some international lounges offer shower facilities to fresh up.

Choose your dates, destination, and number of passengers traveling. Input your contact information, confirm the transaction and pay. Itís that simple. However, for now, Ngpay Mobile is not available for guests traveling to international destinations.
