Argentina's largest domestic and international airline. Aerolineas Argentinas are specialists in flights to South America from Australia. The only other major airline of South America to service Oceania besides Aerollneas Argentinas is LAN Chile. In 1980, Aerollneas Argentinas was the first airline to operate a trans-oceanic South Pacific flight, from Buenos Aires to Auckland, New Zealand, and Sydney, Australia, using Boeing 747s. The airline is one of a few airlines in South America to operate the 747, and has operated the largest fleet of the plane for the longest length of time. 747-200 models are gradually being phased-out, but there was a purchase of more 747-400s in 2004/5 to the fleet of the airline.
Aerollneas Argentinas claims to be one of the safest airlines in Latin America and the world. Skytrax, the independent airline rating website gave Aerolineas Argentineas a rating of 3 stars out of 5 (as at 20th of February 2007). The airline has not as of yet joined any of the 3 major worldwide airlines alliances.
