Venice Flights Guide

Venice, ItalyItaly's Venice is famous for its waterways, gondolas, and delightful charm. It is ranked amongst the top loveliest places in the world. The city is comprised of many islands on a lagoon.

Marco Polo Airport is the nearest airport to Venice. Treviso Airport is also becoming more commonly used. To actually arrive in Venice you will need to travel the last part by water and then by foot. There are numerous water buses and water taxis. Ships arrive at Stazione Marittima. Trains run to Venezia Santa Lucia Train Station from a variety of Italian and European cities. Buses and cars can take you as far as Piazzale Roma. Getting around is easy – by foot! As the only pedestrian city in the world, walking is the only way to get from A to B on land. Water buses and water taxis also transport people between the different islands.

A quintessential Venetian experience is a gondola ride. These are romantic and provide great views of different parts of the city. Whilst not cheap, they are certainly memorable.

You can traverse the Grand Canal, making stops at some of the main attractions and museums in the city. Multilingual commentaries also make this perfect for learning more about culture and history.

Strolling around Venice, you are likely to lose yourself at some point in the small streets and winding alleys. But, that is part of the fun! You will see wonderful architecture, lovely sculptures, fantastic art, and pretty city views.

Some of the main sights in Venice include Basilica di San Marco, the Rialto Bridge, Doge's Palace, and Torre dell'Orologio. The Jewish Ghetto displays Venice's different ethic make up. There are many nice churches and numerous museums to explore. You can also visit some of the different islands very easily. Lido is the beach district, great for chilling out.

As well as enjoying local food, cookery classes enable you to try and replicate delicious cuisine at home. Coffee is big business in Venice, and you should try the local drink, Venetta Grapa. After dark, the main areas for night life are in Erbaria or Campo Santa Margherita.
