Tokyo
Flights Guide
Japan's capital city of Tokyo is a whirlwind of activity. It is an enormous city, with sightseeing galore. With the majestic Mount Fuji providing a stunning city backdrop, it is pretty as well as pulsating. There are many places to stay in the city, with a range of budgets catered for. The city offers a diverse dining scene, with well known Japanese fare freely available, and international cuisine also easy to find. Come night times, Tokyo is ablaze with neon signs, and there is an overwhelming choice of places to go for nocturnal fun. Step into a karaoke joint for a taste of infectious Japanese entertainment.
When it comes to sightseeing, you will be really spoiled for choice in Tokyo. Highlights include the Imperial Palace with its wonderful gardens, the magnificent temples of Asakusa, the incredible views from the soaring Tokyo Tower or other viewing platforms, and the beautiful and spiritual Meiji Shrine. The city boasts many ultra modern shopping malls. Numerous museums grace the city. Young and old alike will enjoy the fabulous theme parks in Tokyo. Favourites include the unique Tokyo DisneySea, Disneyland, and Sanrio Puroland.
There are lovely parks scattered around the city, where you can enjoy a break from the general chaos and cacophony on the streets. Public baths provide some respite in hotter conditions.
The big Narita Airport handles the majority of international flights to and from the city, whilst the also large Haneda Airport serves mainly domestic destinations. Ibaraki Airport mainly caters to low cost carriers, and Chofu Airfield operates a few services to the Izu Islands. High speed trains link Tokyo to the rest of Japan. Many domestic ferries arrive at Tokyo's bustling port. Arriving by bus or car is also possible, but the congested roads make these less desirable options.
Getting around Tokyo is easy, with a well developed transportation system that includes train and subway services. Buses cover other areas. Cycling is another popular way to get around the city. For a different view of the city take a boat ride on the Sumida River.
