Sweden's capital city of Stockholm is a lively city, full of zest, and with many fantastic attractions. You can visit cultural, historical, natural, and modern sights, as well as enjoying fine dining and an active and varied night life. An unusual city, the heart of Stockholm is actually spread over 14 different islands. Numerous bridges span Lake Malaren to connect the islands.
A major natural attraction is the Stockholm Archipelago. Leading down towards the Baltic Sea there are over 20,000 islands and islets in the waters. Cruising around this area is a wonderful way to enjoy natural Stockholm at its very best.

Wander the streets of Gamla Stan, the old part of the city, to snatch glimpses of the Stockholm of yesteryear. The architecture is interesting and varied.
Stockholm is sprinkled with both quaint and magnificent churches. Riddarholmskyrkan is a favourite. The city also contains a mosque and a synagogue. Culture vultures will love the plentiful museums and galleries in Stockholm. With in excess of 70, there really is something for all tastes. For kids, check out Grona Lund, the city's main amusement park.
For excellent panoramic views of the city visit Sodermalm. Alternatively, Kaknastornet, which is home to the city's highest observatory, or Skyview both offer good views.
Getting around Stockholm is easy, with local trains, a subway system, a metro network, trams, ferries, and buses. Taxis are expensive, but available. Cycling is popular in warmer weather. Driving is easy, but parking can be difficult to find and costly.
The main gateway into the city is Stockholm Arlanda Airport. It lies some 40 kilometres outside of the main city areas. Other airports in the locale include Skavsta Airport and Bromma Airport. Cruise ships also carry passengers to the city. The main train station is Stockholms Central, which operates local and long distance services. As well as being able to access major Swedish destinations, trains also run to Denmark and Norway. Buses connect Stockholm to the rest of Sweden and a range of other European cities.
