Skopje is the diverse and interesting capital city of the Republic of Macedonia. It has been the home of various civilisations and nationalities over the years, and has a long and varied history. Today, it is a modern and forward thinking city.

One of the city's main landmarks is the warrior mounted on a horse in the middle of Macedonia Square. Constructed from bronze, it sits on an ornate column. The column is in a musical water fountain; the fountain is flanked by eight proud lions. It is often believed to represent Alexander the Great.
The Double Hamam houses a variety of art exhibits today. In the Old Bazaar you can see an old traditional Ottoman caravansary. Another Ottoman caravansary, Kurshumli Han, is within the grounds of the Macedonian Museum. Parts of the ancient Aqueduct can still be seen today. The City Park is a lovely place to relax and admire the various monuments dotted around the grounds.
