The town of Sibu is located in Malaysia's Sarawak. Sarawak lies on the large island of Borneo, and so Sibu offers a completely different atmosphere and culture to that on the peninsular mainland. It has a majority Chinese population.
Sibu Airport connects the town to various places within Malaysian Borneo, as well as Kuala Lumpur and Johor Bahru on the mainland. The town can be reached by boat from Kuching and Kapit. Buses link Sibu with other towns and cities across Sarawak. Buses also serve local areas, although the town centre is fairly small and so easy to explore by foot. There are also taxis in the town.
Sibu Town Square is the largest such square across Malaysia. The waterfront is situated at the end of the square. Sibu Lake Park offers various activities for visitors, including bird watching, jogging, walking, and relaxing, as well as having a splash pool, a cafe, a boat house, an picnic areas. Bukit Aup Jubilee Park is another popular hangout spot; the lake is home to many fish that can be fed.

A main town sight is the impressive and old The Tua Pek Kong Temple. Another interesting temple in the locale is Yu Long Shang Tian En Shi. It serves three different faiths; Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism.
