Penang Flights Guide

Penang, MalaysiaMalaysia's Penang is well known for being a foodie heaven. Hawker stalls, markets, restaurants, and cafes, all serving a mouth-wateringly tempting range of cuisines create this rich eating culture for which Penang is famous. It is also home to many interesting attractions and sights, and is a major gateway to the popular island of Langkawi.

Climb Penang Hill for glorious views of the area, or take a trip to mangrove forests, waterfalls, and temples. Amongst the most visited temples are Snake Temple, which, as the name suggests, is home to many snakes, the beautiful Chinese temple of Kek Lok Si, and the colourful decorative Hindu Sri Mahamiamman. There are mosques and churches too, adding to the multi-ethnic feel of the city. Fort St William is another popular site.

The streets of George Town are lined with grand and impressive colonial era buildings, and some of the more well-worn areas have been jazzed up with some terrific street art. Take a walk down to the water front and visit some of the clan jetties. The smallest national park in the world in Pantai Acheh is home to a diverse selection of flora and fauna, as well as pretty landscapes. For some sea, sun, and sand, Batu Ferringhi is a great choice. The area is also home to a lively night market.

There are many places to stay in Penang, and the night life is varied. The most lively areas are found around Chulia Street and Upper Penang Road.

Penang has an airport, ports, and the train can be taken as far as Butterworth – it is then just a short ferry hop to Penang. The local buses are easy to use, and there are frequent services. Taxis can also be found with ease.
