Oklahoma City Flights Guide

Oklahoma City, USAOklahoma's capital is dusting off its old-fashioned reputation, and reinventing itself into a vibrant city, which still holds on to its cowboy roots. Abandoned warehouses have been converted into restaurants, shops, and bars, as Oklahoma rises to become one of the state's most interesting new destinations.

The city offers a fairly decent bus system, which runs between some of the museums and attractions in the northeastern part of the city. The Bricktown entertainment district is at the heart of the city's cultural revival, with former warehouses renovated into trendy eateries. The district has a number of public sculptures and murals, and hosts a lively art festival each July. Western Avenue is home to another pleasant strip of restaurants, bars and unique shops.

Check out beautiful Myriad Botanical Gardens, a 17-acre landscaped garden surrounding a sunken lake. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is home to a spectacular collection, including 18 installations created by glass master, Dale Chihuly. There's also the Oklahoma City National Memorial Museum, which pays tribute to the victims and rescuers of the infamous 1995 bombing that destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, killing 168 people.

Jump into the city's cowboy history at Stockyard City, home to a number of good restaurants and shops that specialize in old Western-style clothing, such as cowboy boots and saddles. Founded in the early 20th-century, this area is listed on the National Historic Register. Nearby you'll find the Oklahoma National Stockyards, the self-proclaimed largest live cattle market in the world. Tourists are free to watch the cattle auctions, which take place Mondays and Tuesdays beginning at 9am. Continue the cowboy theme at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum, which features exhibits detailing life in the Old West, along with an excellent collection of Western art. Red Earth, the largest Native American festival in the world, is also held in the city each June.

Oklahoma City's most well-known restaurant is Cattlemen's Steakhouse, which serves hand-cut steak aged on-site, attracting both locals and tourists. BBQ and steak dominate the dining scene, but you'll also find a lot of delicious Mexican/Tex-Mex restaurants.
