The Chinese city of Nanjing is in the province of Jiangsu. Having served as the central city for a number of different dynasties, it contains a superb selection of historical and cultural sites. It is situated on the edges of the mighty Yangtze River, and it is easy to get to some rather lovely and scenic areas. The city also offers an active and varied night life.
The City Wall of Nanjing was built in the 1300s as a way of protecting the city. It was ordered by the founder of the Ming Dynasty. The Gate of China is a wonderfully well preserved part of the old walls, and is a major city sight. You can also visit the ruins of the Ming Dynasty Imperial Palace. Although not much remains today it is still worth a quick visit.
There are several stunning temples around Nanjing. These include the popular Jiming Temple and Confucius Temple.
Take a boat trip along the Qin Huai River to see life along the waters and gorgeous scenery. Go and see the incredible sculptures at the Yangtze River Bridge.
The Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall remembers the many Chinese citizens who died at the hands of the Japanese during the Second World War.
Other places of interest in Nanjing include the Presidential Palace, the Nanjing Museum, Nanjing Yuejiang Lou, and the Taiping Kingdom History Museum.

It operates numerous internal flights, as well as international flights to and from Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Germany. It is well connected by trains, with many services to Shanghai, Wuxi, and Suzhou. There are, however, also rail services to most parts of China. In addition, people can get to and from Nanjing by bus. Within the city, ways of getting around include by bus, by metro, by taxi, and by bicycle.
