Nairobi Travel Guide
Nairobi is the capital and largest city if Kenya and also one of the largest cities in Africa.
The main airport serving Nairobi is JKIA Joma Kanyatta International Airport. The city is also served by train and bus, as well as matatus, which are minibuses and cars with six seats. Nairobi's roads are very congested. Taxis and matutus are the most common means of local transport. Walking is easy, with many of the main sights being very close to each other. Walking at night, however, is not advised due to safety concerns.
Known as the safari capital of Africa, many companies compete for business to take visitors into the wild. Nairobi National Park comprises forest, cliffs, and plains - It is a great place to enjoy the very best of Mother Nature's creations. It is also home to lions, hippos, cheetahs, zebras, buffalos, rhinos, giraffes, wildebeest, and many bird species. To get close to wildlife, one can also visit the Giraffe Centre and the Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage.
Mamba Village houses crocodiles and ostriches, and nearby, at Thika, you can visit a cascading waterfall.
For the best views over the city, head to Kenyatta International Conference Center; the viewing tower affords great panoramic vistas.
Of Nairobi's museums, the Nairobi National Museum is one of the best. It also has a snake compound next door for the brave. The Karen Blixen Museum is also well worth a visit. Visit Bomas of Kenya to learn more about the county's culture and heritage.
A moving site is the US Embassy Memorial, which marks the place where a terrorist bomb ripped through the American Embassy. Guided tours of the slums provide an insight into the less salubrious areas.
For night life, Westlands is a prime spot, with bars, restaurants, and clubs.
Some must dos include trying the Nairobi cuisine, partying the night away, ice skating in Africa at Panari, and perusing the wares at Village Market.
