Mumbai
Flights Guide
Mumbai, previously known as Bombay, is a large cosmopolitan city in India's state of Maharashtra. It is the state capital and the largest city in the country. It offers a atmosphere different to other parts of the country. It is pulsating and liberal.
There are many fine colonial buildings, with examples of Neo-classical, Gothic revival, and Indo-Saracenic designs along the wide streets near to the splendid Fort St George. Check out the High Court and the University.
The Mumbai Zoo provides some respite from the thronging city, and whist Mumbai is a veritable concrete jungle, there are a few pleasant parks scattered across the city. Kamla Nehru Park is excellent, with an interesting statue that has featured in many movies. The Hanging Gardens are also pretty, with great views of the local area.
There are numerous museums and art galleries in Mumbai, with a high density in the area of Kala Ghoda. Religious buildings abound. Mumbai's magical markets are a must. Seeming mayhem reveals busy street sellers and jostling crowds. The Gateway of India is the city's most prominent landmark.
Mumbai has very good air connections with the rest of the world. Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport is the busiest airport in India, serving international and domestic destinations. One can access Mumbai also on a limited number of ferries from Asian countries. Trains connect Mumbai to the rest of India, and it is also linked by road.
Within Mumbai, roads are congested. There are bus services around the city, but a better way to explore is by train. Taxis are available if you need them, and at least one journey in an autorickshaw is a must!
With such a melting pot of cultures, it is only natural that there is a wide and diverse culinary scene in Mumbai. The night life is the most sophisticated in India.
