Minneapolis Flights Guide

Minneapolis, USAOften compared to New York City for its progressive art scene and nightlife, Minneapolis is the livelier of the two; while St. Paul's marble Minnesota State Capitol buildings give the city a more bookish, historic feel. Despite their differences, both cities are incredibly well-maintained and home to down-to-earth locals.

Minneapolis Metro Transit operates an efficient bus and light rail system. St. Paul also offers a bus system, although it's a little less reliable than the one in Minneapolis. In Minneapolis, the Mill City Museum exhibits the Twin Cities' history of flour production, contrasting with the Walker Art Center, where the pieces are decidedly modern and avant-garde. The Minneapolis Institute of Art houses over 80,000 works of sculpture, photography, and painting. In St. Paul, you'll find the distinct marble dome of the State Capitol, and Summit Avenue, which is home to a lovely strip of Victorian residential architecture. Nearby Summit Avenue is the Cathedral of St. Paul, a gorgeous Renaissance-style structure. Minneapolis's Lake Calhoun is a popular spot for fishing, swimming, bicycling and skiing; while St. Paul's Como Park is home to a zoo and conservatory with a pretty botanical garden. In the summer, locals like to hang out at the outdoor cafes lining the Mississippi River, which joins the two cities.

Packed with over 500 shops, the massive Mall of America in nearby Bloomington is the unquestioned king of shopping in the area. Minneapolis is also home to two smaller malls, as well as some more unique boutique stores in Uptown. In St Paul, there's Grand Avenue, a string of mostly independent stores housed in former residences, interspersed with Latino cafes, gourmet ice cream shops and bistros.

Minneapolis's Warehouse District is the centre of the area's nightlife, with a mix of nightclubs and dining. Theatre is one of the most popular evening activities, with more theatre seats per capita than any other American city, save New York. Plus, Minneapolis's deep-blue Guthrie Theater is an architectural attraction in its own right.
