Memphis Flights Guide

Memphis, USAMemphis, Tennessee, is a large city, famous for music, Elvis, and a jolly good time!

Memphis International Airport serves the city, with a handful of international routes and many domestic routes. Trains run along the Mississippi, linking Memphis to various places along the way. Buses connect the city to several other US cities, including Chicago, Atlanta, Champaign, St. Louis, Knoxville, Nashville, Birmingham, Little Rock, and Dallas.

Whilst the downtown area is easy enough to explore by foot, for anything else you will really need your own private transport to fully enjoy the best of Memphis.

One of Memphis' major claims to fame is having been the birthplace of the blues. Visit the Home of the Blues, Beale Street, and step inside one of the many bars and clubs where, more often than not, you can enjoy some live music. This is fun during the day and at night, although at night the whole street is transformed into a big outdoor party, with vehicles banned and drinking on the streets allowed.

Other places related to the blues include Sun Studio, which produced a large number of records, the Memphis Rock 'n' Soul Museum, and the Stax Museum of American Soul Music.

No visit to Memphis is complete without a trip to the mighty Gracelands, Elvis Presley's home. The house is crammed with Elvis memorabilia, and whilst it certainly cannot be called subtle, what else would you expect for the King of Rock and Roll?! Tacky and trashy, or a moving tribute - you decide!

The National Civil Rights Museum offers a more somber attraction, and it is constructed from the building where eminent civil rights figure, Martin Luther King Jr., was shot to death.

Tours of the Mississippi allow you to experience some lovely natural scenery. For kids, visit the zoo, Shelby Farms Park, and Mud Island River Park.
