It is one of the country's imperial cities, and has oodles of culture, heritage, and history. It is a popular holiday destination and one that is sure to make your soul sing.
Marrakech Menara Airport offers a range of flights to European and domestic destinations. Marrakech is connected to Casablanca and Rabat by train. Rail transport is also possible to and from Tangier. A good amount of buses connect Marrakech with the rest of Morrocco. There are buses and taxis to get around the city, and the Medina is easy to walk around. Horse drawn carriages also operate in some areas.
Split into two parts, you can chop and change between the historical core of Medina and the modern area of Gueliz.
Within the Medina you should head to the main square where you can explore the myriad mazes of streets, crammed with bustling souks and a variety of excellent products. You can buy almost anything and everything at the souks. Various performers are sure to keep you entertained, with snake charmers, monkeys, musicians, acrobats, and fortune tellers regularly making an appearance. Within the famous Kasbah area of the old city you can admire the Royal Palace, the now ruined El Badi Palace, and the Saadian Tombs. At night time the streets are even more electric and mesmerising, with hypnotic music playing, drums wildly beating, dancers displaying some exotic moves, street food aplenty, and various artists down the narrow alleys.
The Koutoubia Mosque with its towering minaret is an arresting sight, especially at night when it is beautifully illuminated.
A visit to the Tanneries is interesting, where you can see workers skillfully performing their duties.
Other places to visit in Marrakech include the Dar Si Said Museum, El Bahai Palace, and the Menara Gardens.
No trip to Marrakech is complete without experiencing a traditional steam room, known as a hammam, or having a puff on a shisha pipe.
There is an incredibly wide choice of accommodation options in Marrakech, ranging from camping areas to grand old mansions, known as Riads.
