Teesside Attractions - Things to do
Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art Opened in 2007, Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art, or mima, is one of the UK’s foremost galleries for contemporary art. Temporary exhibitions change every quarter, and include painting, drawing, ceramics, jewellery, sound, film, mixed media, photography and sculpture. The permanent collection of local art is a combination of pieces from the Middlesbrough Art Gallery and Cleveland Craft Centre. Admission to mima is free. http://www.visitmima.com/ Ormesby Hall Ormesby Hall is an eighteenth century Palladian mansion, owned by the National Trust. It has model railways, a restored Victorian kitchen, game larder, and scullery, and working stables. The mansion is set in six acres of beautiful gardens that are perfect to escape the hustle and bustle of town, to take a walk, or to have a summer picnic. http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main/w-ormesbyhall Transporter Bridge The enormous blue bridge that is the icon of Middlesbrough, and crosses the River Tees, can be seen from most places in the Tees Valley. It was built in the town’s industrial heyday and it was designed to allow tall ships to pass underneath. There are only two bridges of its kind in the UK, and it is an engineering marvel. Find out more about the bridge at the visitors centre. http://www.middlesbrough.gov.uk/
