Orange Attractions - Things to do
Orange Heritage Trail is a great way to appreciate the beauty and elegance of the 19th Century buildings of Orange. There are 44 buildings of interest on this tour, some displaying stained glass windows and pressed metal ceilings. Most of the buildings have been lovingly restored and maintained. The wide tree lined streets of Orange make this an incredibly beautiful walk for those who are interested in heritage and 19th century architecture. Some of the buildings you will see are the Orange Town Hall, the Orange Court House, and the Duntryleague Guest House. The Holy Trinity Church of Orange is a must see with its tall steeple being seen from much of the city, and is built in the high Victorian Gothic Revival style. Bowen Terrace is a rare example of a perfect row of ironwork decorated houses dating from 1876. The famous Australian poet was born on 17th February 1864, in the home of John Templer, now the site of the memorial. Andrew "Banjo" Paterson is considered to be Australia's most famous bush poet and wrote the iconic "Waltzing Matilda". There is also another monument dedicated of Banjo Paterson in the Civic Gardens near the Visitor Information Centre. Orange Regional Gallery primarily collects Australian contemporary prints and paintings, but also collects art clothes reflecting the region's wool industry, ceramics and jewellery. Orange Regional Gallery has works from Nolan, Fairweather, Cossington Smith, and Wakelin, amongst many other modern artists. The Orange Regional Gallery was opened in 1986 and is considered to be one the busiest regional galleries in Australia, with more than 30 000 visitors each year. The Orange Regional Gallery is located in the Civic Gardens and is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10am to 5pm. Public Holidays and Sundays from 12 to 4pm. URL: http://www.org.nsw.gov.au/
