Nelson Attractions - Things to do
Nelson Lakes National Park is 102 000 hectares on the northern most Southern Alps and is about a 1 or 2 hour drive from Nelson. Features of this national park include glacial lakes, tall mountains, pristine streams, beech forests and alpine plants. Lakes Rorioti and Rotoroa, which were created when massive glaciers carved out troughs in the last Ice Age, are extremely photo worthy. Nelson Lakes National Park has many birds such as robins, tomtits, tiny rifleman, and South Island kaka. There are many walks, both long and short, including alpine tramping, displaying the glacial lakes, the forest, or the lake shore.

Happy Valley Adventures is the perfect attraction for the adventure loving. Why not try the skywire flying fox which attains speeds of up to 100 km/hr as you fly over the native forest? Perhaps you would rather keep your feet on the ground and ride 4WD motorbikes through the forest, or take a horse trek along mountain trails. There is also paintball. The blokes are will be wanting to check out the 50 classic and rare cars that comprise the collectable car complex. These cars and motorbikes are the largest private car collection in New Zealand and are an eclectic assortment celebrating motoring. Meanwhile the ladies can marvel at the imagination that has gone into the creations in the WearableArtGallery. As the name would suggest, they are woks of art that you can literally put on your back. Even better, the mannequins move to music specifically chosen for the outfit. The gallery is open 10am to 5pm every day except Christmas. Located at 95 Quarantine Rd, Annesbrook, Nelson.
