Palma de Mallorca Attractions - Things to do
Es Baluard Museu d’Art Modern I Contemporani The modern and contemporary art museum is housed in one of the old bastions overlooking the walled watercourse that once served as Palma’s moat. Located on Placa Porta Santa Catalina, its main claim to fame is a rare and unexpected collection of Picasso ceramics that includes a dramatic white, ochre, and black vase called Big Bird Corrida. http://www.esbaluard.org/ Palau March Museum The lavish 1930s townhouse of Joan Marsh, a well known Mallorcan industrialist and investor is now open to the public as the Palau March Museum. The main feature is the Italian style courtyard and the various pieces of modern art displayed there which are taken from the March collection. There are key pieces by Henry Moore, Rodin, and Xavier Corbero. http://www.fundbmarch.es/ La Seu The first thing visitors notice about Le Seu, the cathedral of Palma, is the sheer height of it. The nave is forty four metres high, making it one of the tallest gothic structures in Europe. The cathedral was built on the site of a Moorish Mosque after the Christian Reconquest of Palma, and is essentially of gothic design. However, the interior was remodelled in the early twentieth century by Antonio Gaudi, who removed the central coro, allowing light to flood the church, and who added various modernist touches such as the lighting above the altar. http://www.palmademallorca.es/
