Malaga Attractions - Things to do
The Alcazaba and Gibralfaro These impressive citadels, perched on top of the hill overlooking Malaga, are testimony to seven hundred years of Moorish rule in Malaga. Superbly restored, the interiors of these magnificent structures give some clues about life in Moorish Spain, and there are excellent views over Malaga and beyond along with the exhibits. http://www.malagaturismo.com/ Museo Picasso Malaga Opened in 2003, the Picasso museum exhibits over two hundred significant works by the artist who was born, and spent the first ten years of his life, in Malaga. The paintings span his entire career, and often give a personal insight into the artist as many of the works are those he kept for himself or gave away to loved ones. They were donated to the museum by his daughter-in-law and grandson. A couple of hundred metres away in the Plaza de la Merced, Picasso’s birthplace is also open to the public. http://www.museopicassomalaga.org/ Catedral Malaga’s unfinished cathedral is one of the most prominent landmarks of the city. Built between the sixteenth and eighteenth century, it is probably most famous for its missing tower; the money earmarked for construction of the tower was given to support the American War of Independence by a radical bishop. Look for the Gothic portal of the Iglesia del Sagrario, and the Plateresque retablo inside, which is the work of Juan Balmaseda and is spectacularly lit during church services. http://www.malagaturismo.com/
