The Fourviere Basilica
 
The Basilica of Fourviere is an outstanding example of religious architecture from the nineteenth century, and with one and a half million guests each year, it is one of the most visited sanctuaries in France. The Virgin Mary has been honoured on the site of the Basilica for over one thousand years, and several services still take place each day. It is possible to tour the basilica, and your guide will explain the symbolism of the decorative features. There is also a mystery tour that ends high up on the basilica’s roof.

Roman ruins
 
There are a wide range of Roman archaeological sites throughout the area of Lyon including the Theatre and Odeon, Roman Baths, the basilica and necropolis of St. Laurent de Choulans and the baptistery and vestiges of the Churches of St. Etienne and Ste. Croix. The Musee Gallo Romain is located on Fourviere Hill at the site of the Theatre and Odeon and provides tours of these sites.

Museum of Fine Arts
 
The museum is housed in a former seventeenth century royal Benedictine abbey in the heart of Lyon’s historical district. The museum’s collections highlight key periods in the history of art, beginning with Ancient Egypt and finishing with contemporary art. As well as a staggering seventy galleries used to display the permanent exhibition the museum hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions which helps to maintain its dynamism. You can hire an audio guide which allows you to tour the museum at your own pace.
