Launceston Attractions - Things to do
Boags Brewery. This historic and well known brewery was first started in 1852 and runs tours Monday through Friday. There are several brewery tours to select from, but all of them offer an insight into how their famous beers are made. Tours last for a minimum of 60 minutes, and all end with beer tastings. Also at the brewery is a museum which displays the commercial and family history of J Boag and Son. A must do for all lovers of the amber liquid. there is also a store where various Boag merchandise can be purchased. Boag Brewery is located at 39 William St, Launceston. URL: http://www.boags.com.au/#/brewery/tours/about/ The Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery (QVMAG for short). This is the biggest regional gallery in Australia and is famous for its collections and exhibitions of Tasmanian natural history, Australian colonial art, convict memorabilia, and Australian decorative arts especially the post 1945 period. It is also famous for its 1880's Chinese temple dating from Tasmania's tin mining boom. This free museum also features the Phenomena Factory, suitable for kids of all ages interested in a hands on interactive science centre. The QVMAG is open every day, excepting Christmas and Good Friday, from 10am to 5pm. It is located at 2 Invermay Road, Inveresk, Launceston. A tourist attraction for all the family. URL:::: http://www.qvmag.tas.gov.au/ Cataract Gorge. This is a beautiful natural wonder literally located a 15 minute walk from town, of course you can also drive there in about 2 minutes. This park offers superb views of the South Esk River from the cliff face, or a chairlift. Those looking for outdoor adventures can abseil in the park and climb the Gorge. The park is split into 2 by the river. On the southern side there is a natural swimming pool and a cafe. On the northern side, which is accessed by a chairlift, there is the most amazing Victorian gardens, complete with peacocks strutting around, a rotunda, and a restaurant and cafe.
