Kaohsiung Attractions - Things to do

The Cijin District
 
This district which is located on a slim island that is situated in Kaohsiung harbor is the seafood hub of the city. This district is renowned for its many seafood restaurants which offer dishes created with the day’s fresh catch . Cijin district is connected to the rest of Kaohsiung city by a series of underwater tunnels and ferries that traverse the harbor. Additionally this district is also home to several ancient temples like the 17th century Matsu Temple which is also known as the Tien Hou Kung Temle. The Cijin lighthouse is also located here as is the Qi Jin Beach which is located on the west coast of island.
 
Cheng Ching Lake
 
This lake whose name translates as ‘crystal clear’ is the most prominent lake in Kaohsiung. The lake side Cheng Ching lake offers a plethora of recreational activities like boating, fishing and hiking. The 140 foot high Chunghsing Pagoda is a popular attraction that is located here which is equipped with a winding staircase and an observation platform. The Cheng Ching Lake side also offers fresh water and saltwater aquariums which house several fascinating marine creatures.
 
Cijin Lighthouse
 
The Kaohsiung lighthouse stands on the summit of Chihou Mountain. This lighthouse is built like an octagon. The light house was originally constructed in 1883 but it was totally remodeled in 1918.
 
Three Phoenix Palace
 
The Three Phoenix Palace is the largest temple in Kaohsiung. This temple features impressive stone carvings of lions and ornate halls. The central hall is adorned with intricately carved alter tables and ten huge glowing image cones. The main hall is the gateway to the main Buddhist shrine which contains three alters that are adorned with gilded Buddha images.
 
YenCheng
 
The old downtown area of Kaohsiung which is located east of the Lover River is known as Yengcheng .Yengcheng is an entertainment hub which is populated with trendy stores, bars and restaurants. The area is popular with both tourists and locals.
