Guangzhou Attractions - Things to do
Bright Filial Piety Temple
This temple is one of the grandest temples in all of China. The Bright Filial Piety Temple was built during the Western Han Dynasty (207 BC - 24 AD) when it was constructed as a private residence. The dwelling was then dedicated as a Zen Buddhist Temple during the Southern Song Dynasty(1127 – 1279). The architecture of the temple and the various cultural relics that are housed in the temple provide a valuable insight into the history of Chinese Buddhism, culture, and architecture as well as the local history of Guangdong Province. The main complex of the temple has within it various attractions like the Mahavira Hall, the Sixth Ancestor Hall (Liuzudian), the Samgharama Hall, the Heavenly King Hall (Tianwangdian), the East and West Iron Towers, and the Mahakaruna Dharani Sutra Pillar.
Yuexiu Park
The Yuexiu Park is the largest urban park in China. The park is situated in downtown Guangzhou and covers an area of 860,000 square meters. This verdant oasis which has within its environs three artificial lakes and seven hills also hosts several sculptures and historical land marks like the statue of the Five Rams, the Zhenhai Tower, the site of the Ming Dynasty City Wall, and Square Cannon Site. The Yuexiu Park also has several other attractions like an amusement park, a swimming pool, a gymnasium, a museum located within its boundaries.
The Pearl River
The Pearl River is one of the most famous landmarks of Guangzhou. This river which is the third longest river in China is composed of four different river systems that actually meet in Guangzhou City and flow through it en route to the South China Sea. The Pearl River flows for about 70 km through Guangzhou city and ten bridges have been constructed across it on this route. These bridges are illuminated every night and present quite a wondrous site.
