Griffith Attractions - Things to do
A visit to Hermits Cave will amaze. The cave was built by Valerio Reciti, an Italian migrant who arrived in Australia I 1916 at 17 years old. Believing he was the only Italian, he built the cave in secret and stayed to himself. The beauty that he had created was not discovered until he was injured in a fall. Once the decorated caves, massive stone galleries, clifside gardens and floral painted rock walls were discovered, Reciti became a celebrity, although he chose to remain living in his cave. http://www.visitnsw.com/town/Griffith/Hermits_Cave_And_Sir_Dudley_De_Chairs_Lookout/info.aspx Cocoparra National Park is only 25 kilometres east of Griffith. Explore the scenic gullies, Ladysmith Glen, the clumps of ironbark and cypress pine. The forest floor has a range of acacia and tea tree with colourful wildflowers bursting into bloom in spring. Bird watchers will enjoy the view with peregrine falcons and wedge tailed eagles nesting in the area. Not to mention there are plenty of parrots, thornbills, and honeyeaters. A multitude of wildlife abounds and you will be sure to see a greay kangaroo, possums, echidnae, marsupial mice and bats. Activities to enjoy include bushwalking, camping, picnicking and photography. http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au A visit to Pioneer Park Museum is a step back in time. The museum features 40 historic buildings and a large collection of historical artefacts from the early pioneering days. Set in a natural bushland setting, pack a picnic and enjoy the facilities. http://www.visitnsw.com/town/Griffith/Pioneer_Park_Museum/info.aspx
