Dusseldorf Attractions - Things to do
Goethe Museum The Goethe Museum is a remarkable collection of memorabilia relating to the writer, philosopher and poet that was gathered by Anton Kippenberg throughout his lifetime. It details the whole of Goethe’s life and the different phases and influences he passed though. The collection is based on Goethe’s idea of the symbol, with each exhibit having a particular relevance to Goethe’s thinking at the time as well as an actual event in his life. http://www.goethe-museum-kippenberg-stiftung.de/ Kunsthalle A rare example of raw architecture, the Kunsthalle is a concrete block on Grabbeplatz which was built in 1967 using prefabricated concrete pieces. Many famous exhibitions have taken place at the Kunsthalle and various international artists have become known by exhibiting there. The Kunsthalle does not have its own permanent collection but showcases temporary exhibits of contemporary art. Its goal is to place art in a context that is relevant and serves a purpose in today’s society. http://www.kunsthalle-duesseldorf.de/ Aquazoo This innovative zoo houses a wide variation of fish, birds, mammals, and insects, and is located in North Park, Düsseldorf. One of the main attractions is a colony of Gentoo penguins that are kept in a special enclosure which must maintain a steady temperature of ten degrees celsius so the sub Antarctic birds don’t overheat. The Aquazoo also contains other habitats, from a tropical coast to a coral reef. http://www.duesseldorf.de/eng/aquazoo/
