The State Museum of East Timor
 
This museum was founded in 1995 but it suffered much damage during the outbreaks of violence in 1999. The museum was then restored by the UNTAET(UN transitional administration) and today it has a small collection of wood carvings, wood figures and traditional arte-facts like musical instruments and paintings.
 
Areia Branca
 
This beautiful beach which is known for its golden sands is a popular retreat for the citizens of Dili who enjoy swimming and relaxing on the beach.
 
Bacau
 
Bacau is the second largest city in East Timor and it is still home to fine examples of Portuguese architecture as well as ancient caves which were used by the Japanese during World War II. The city is also home to several beautiful white sand beaches and is worth visiting on any trip to East Timor.
 
Com
 
Com is a picturesque fishing village which is a popular weekend getaway for the residents of Dili. Fishing and snorkeling are some of the popular recreational activities that are offered here.
 
Oecussi Province
 
The Oecussi Province is located in Indonesian West Timor but it is controlled by East Timor. Oecussi province was largely destroyed by the fighting of recent years but today this province whose capital Pantemakassar was the first Portuguese settlement in East Timor is another popular getaway is East Timor. Pantemakassar is a scenic little town which is situated between the coast and the mountains and offers activities like diving and snorkeling on the coral reefs that envelope its coast and mountain biking and hiking on the various trails located in the mountains that are located close to it.
