Colonial attractions
 
Both the Russians and the Japanese have left their mark on the city of Dalian. The evidence of this colonial era can be witnessed in various areas of the city. One such area is the Zhongshan District which is located in the downtown area of the city and has in its midst Zhongshan Square from which wide avenues extend throughout the city. Renmin Square which is also known as Stalin Square is another square that was built by the Russians. This square is located in the Xigang District and it used to function as the center of administration during Russian rule but it today houses many financial institutions and government buildings in its many European style buildings which were built by Russian architects who wished to duplicate the architecture of Paris in Dalian. The district also has the old tramlines that were built by the Japanese.
 
Xiangshui Temple
 
The Xiangshui temple is an ancient site which is located within close proximity to Dalian on the northern side of Dahei mountain. This Daoist temple was first built during the Tang Dynasty nearly a thousand years ago but the temple was subsequently renovated during the Qing dynasty ( 1644-1912). The temple is named after the waterfalls that are located within its interior which also includes a 40 meter long natural cave. The temple can be easily reached via taxi from Dalian city.
 
Lushun
 
This city which was previously known as Port Arthur is a historically significant city as it has featured in many wars through the ages. Lushun is located about 40 km to the south west of Dalian city and should be visited on any trip to Dalian. Many local tour companies and hotels in Dalaian offer tours to Port Arthur and the best way for you to experience this city is to take one of these guided tours.
