From here, the road begins to scale Pike's Peak. The summit is 33,528 metres above sea level. It is one of the most visited mountain tops in the world, second only to Mt. Fuji. There is a roughly 21-km hiking trail as well as a road to the top. Nausea and faintness are not uncommon due to the severe change in altitude for people riding up this mountain. The Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center is the site of red sandstone rock formations before the snow capped backdrop of Pike’s Peak. Admission is free. There are exhibits displaying local minerals, paleontological specimens and Native American culture of the area. There are hiking trails here as well as rock climbing opportunities.
