Coffs Harbour Attractions - Things to do
A visit to Coffs Harbour Historical Museum on Harbour Drive is a step back in time. The collection of exhibits with historical significance of the Coffs Harbour region includes about 10,000 artefacts. Displays include artefacts showcasing indigenous items, cedar getters implements, old photographs, mining and farming relics. Featured displays include a working lighthouse built circa 1875 and a 1910 Star ‘the first motorised taxi in Coffs Harbour’. http://www.coffscoast.com.au/nsw/welcome.shtml A visit to Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve during late August and early September is exciting as you see the Wedge-Tailed Shearwaters or Muttonbirds as they return from their winter feeding grounds. Their rookery is on Giidayn Miirral or Muttonbird Island, their home from September to April. The Nature Reserve is at the Coffs Harbour International Marina. Delight in their nightly performance as they return from feeding out at see is an experience of magical sights and sounds of the very active seabird rookery. http://www.coffscoast.com.au/midac/reception.pl?Source=Coffs+Coast+Travel+and+Tourism&Code=iINcc643&Template=coffs&st=5&returnURL=http://www.coffscoast.com.au&IN=INcc&dm=1&tw=100%&wide=385 Bongil Bongil National Park is only 15 kilometres south of Coffs Harbour between Sawtell and Mylestom. The park features beautiful unspoilt beaches, rainforests, wetlands, mangroves as well as coastal dunes and pristine estuaries. The Indiginous name ‘Bongil Bongil’ means ‘a place where one stays a long time because of the abundance of food’, clearly exemplifies the rich and diverse plant and animal communities that exist here. Home to one of New South Wales largest koala populations, you are sure to catch a glimpse of one while you are there. The picnic area has BBQ facilities, picnic tables and toilets on the edge of the park’s waterways where you wil enjoy fishing, canoeing or kayaking. http://www.coffscoast.com.au/midac/reception.pl?UEPage=1&Page=UE1&Source=&Code=iBusINct227&returnURL=&Template=coffs&st=5&Ref=&tw=100%&IN=INcc&so=coffs&wide=385
