Cedar Rapids Attractions - Things to do
The National Trust Historic Site, Brucemore, is located on an estate of 10.5 hectares. From 1844 to 1981, 3 different wealthy industrialist immigrant families inhabited this mansion and estate. Guided tours of the 21-room museum are given from March through November. Visitors can also stroll through the expansive gardens. Outdoor summer concerts and other events are frequently held at this attraction. (http://www.brucemore.org/) In Nearby Anamosa, the National Motorcycle Museum awaits. The motorcycle Hall of Fame is shared between this site and another in the state of Ohio. Engines, photos and vintage bikes are among the pieces on display. More than 170 bikes are usually on display at this museum, commemorating these machines that first hit the roads in 1902. (http://www.nationalmcmuseum.org/) Cedar Rapids is home to the African American Museum of Iowa. The 5,182 square metre facility is dedicated to the heritage of African Americans in this Midwestern state. More than 1,600 objects are in the collection, as well as archives. Traveling exhibitions are displayed in addition to the permanent exhibits. (http://www.blackiowa.org/) The National Czech & Slovak Museum and Library first opened its doors here in 1978. It is the leading US museum dedicated to Czech and Slovak peoples and their culture. (http://www.ncsml.org/Default.aspx) The Museum of Art is home to 5,600 pieces in its permanent collection.
