Mount Etna
The volcano has shaped much of Catania’s landscape, so it is well worth a visit. Lentini
Lentini is an ancient town near Catania which has a variety of fascinating buildings and archaeological sites. The centre of town features the eighteenth century Chiesa Madre church, and the Church of S.S. Trinità and Saint Marziano. The Archaeological Park contains ancient walls that date back to the seventh century BC, the pre-historic village of Xouthia and the Necropolis.

Museo Comunale Castello
Catania’s Communal Museum is located in the Ursino Castle, which was built in the thirteenth century and faces onto Piazza Federico di Svevia. Commissioned by Federico II, the Aragons lived there in the fourteenth century and the defensive walls were added later. The Communal Museum was established in 1934, combining collections from the Benedictines, the Princes Bragaglia, and the Zappala Barons. The exhibits range from twelfth century sculptures to eighteenth century vestments. The historic castle is as much of an attraction as the museum itself.
