Brest Attractions - Things to do
Oceanopolis Perfect for a rainy day, or to occupy children, Brest’s aquarium is around three kilometres east of the town centre, and has a superb collection of seals, crabs, penguins, and sharks. The tanks are arranged in three themed pavilions; tropical, polar and temperate. http://www.oceanopolis.com/ Le Musée des Phares et des Balises The Lighthouse and Beacon museum is located on the Ile d’Ouessant, just of the coast from Brest, and tells the story of the nearby Phare de Creac’h, the world’s most powerful lighthouse. The lighthouse beams two white flashes every ten seconds and is visible for fifty kilometres. It guides the fifty thousand ships that enter the Channel every year. The museum also has interesting exhibitions on shipwrecks and under water archaeology. http://www.ouessant.org/Le-musee-des-phares/ Le Musée de la Tour Tanguy Tour Tanguy is a fourteenth century tower on the place Pierre Péron, and gives an insight into Brest’s architecture before the Second World War. It houses exhibitions on local history, including a detailed account of the visit of three Siamese ambassadors in the seventeenth century. http://www.mairie-brest.fr/brest/tour_tanguy.htm/
