Blackall Attractions - Things to do
The Blackall Woolscour is a historical wool washing plant that operated on steam located only 4 kilometres from town. Of the 52 that operated throughout Australia, this one at Blackall is the only remaining complete operation of its kind. It operated from 1908 to 1978 and has been restored, seen and heard it’s noisy steam driven machinery in action. The Blackall Woolscour was in operation during the ‘Golden Age of Wool’ and guided tours take visitors through each stage of the wool processing. A celebrity of Blackall, Jackie Howe set an unbroken record to this day of shearing 321 sheep in seven hours and forty minutes. Test your skills and try the hand-shears as used by jack Howe. http://www.heritagetrails.qld.gov.au/attractions/blackall.html After a long day of sightseeing and excitement, a visit to the Blackall Aquatic Centre is a chance to relax, refresh and revive. The waters of the Aquatic Centre are from the Great Artesian Basin and are warm and soothing. The Centre is set in tropical surroundings and is an Oasis consists of a 50metre pool, two paddle pools and a naturally fed artesian spa. The Blackall Aquatic Centre is open all year and during the winter months, the pool and spa are heated. http://www.queenslandholidays.com.au/destinations/outback/places-to-visit/blackall/ Tambo Teddies make their home at Tambo across the river from Blackall. Tambo is the ‘outback Teddy capital of Australia’. With wool prices rock bottom, two days of brainstorming came up with the idea of Teddy Bears made out of wool. Moving from strength to strength, from humble beginnings at the Charleville Sheep Show and Sale in 1993, Tambo Teddies are now world travelers with over 29,000 sold all over the world. Visit Tambo Teddies and pickup your own Teddy with character. http://www.tamboteddies.com.au
