Barcaldine Attractions - Things to do
The Australian Workers Heritage Centre was opened in 1991 and is described by many as the unsung wonder of the outback. It is located in the grounds of the old Barcaldine State School. As custodians of working Australians, the Heritage Centre preserves the stories and achievements of railway workers, farmers, blacksmiths, factory workers, mothers, nurses, teachers and nuns from the region. With the weary traveller, this outback oasis with landscaped gardens and shady trees around a billabong give a moment to relax and enjoy. Browse the gift shop showcasing local artists with a collection of souvenirs, books and country styled clothing.

Artesian Country Tours are based in Barcaldine with access out to the surrounding towns of Longreach, Aramac, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Blackall, Winton and Rubyvale. A collection of memorabilia encased in history and heritage is housed at the Barcaldine and District Folk Museum. Located in the former old National Bank that was built in 1906, a visit to the museum is family entertainment. Displays are continually being added to and the children will enjoy mini steam train rides with lunch available. Family days are held the last Sunday of the month from March to November.
