Join the FREE Heritage Tour, a delightful two and a half hour guided tour of Armidale. View the historical background of the city and viewing heritage buildings, cultural places, special gardens, schools and the university. With easy access, your level of fitness is not an issue. Closest to Armidale is the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park which has some of the most spectacular gorges and waterfalls in Australia and is located only 20 minutes from Armidale. Wollomombi Gorge has the second highest waterfall in the Southern Hemisphere and is only 30 minutes from town. One hour east of town is Cathedral Rock National Park is worth a visit for its spectacular walks. If you are looking for something more rugged and wild, then New England National Park is the one for you. The Centre also has an interactive corner for children, historical and research rooms. A local heroes’ display, bush tucker walk and an archaeological section will keep the family entertained. Located in the traditional territory of the Anaiwan (a local Aboriginal tribe), it is only 30km west of Armidale. A significant landmark of Aboriginal cultural heritage, this 3km loop walk takes you past the rock art site.
