The Alaska Native Heritage Center is a non-profit museum and cultural centre. The 11 distinct cultures original to this land are celebrated here to promote Native self esteem and cultural exchange. It is in the northern part of Anchorage. (http://www.alaskanative.net/)
 
The Chugach National Forest is the city’s sprawling backyard. Three distinct environments are found here in the Copper River Delta, along Prince William Sound and the Eastern Kenai Peninsula. Guided tours are available on foot and in canoe at some sections of the park. Some activities require passes or permits. The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is one of several places to see local wildlife up close. It is a recovery centre for injured animals and permanent home to those that cannot be released into the wild. The Anchorage Museum of Art and History has 17,500 pieces in its permanent collection and 2,000 artifacts. It also owns more than 350,000 photographs documenting history.
