Lisbon Flights Guide

Lisbon, PortugalPortugal's city of Lisbon entices visitors for its nice beaches, pretty architecture, old areas, nice weather, modern outlook, and laid back atmosphere.

To get to Lisbon you can fly into Aeroporto da Portela, take a train to Santa Apolonia or Dare do Oriente, or take a bus to Sete Rios or Rede Nacional. Trains and buses connect Lisbon to the rest of the country, as well as numerous other European destinations. Cruise vessels often visit the city.

Getting around Lisbon is easy; the metro and buses cover the whole city. Rented scooters are gaining popularity, and the compact city centre is great for walking or cycling. Several handy funiculars link some parts of the city.

Lisbon's main landmark is the towering Cristo Rei statue. It looks over the city from the edges of the Tejo River, and stands over 100 metres high. You can ride an elevator to the summit to enjoy excellent sweeping views.

St George's Castle is another popular site that offers good views. You can visit Europe's longest bridge, the Ponte Vasco do Gama, and Golden Gate Bridge's sister – Ponte 25 de Abril was designed by the same person who thought up the iconic San Francisco bridge. For more amazing architectural feats, visit the historic Aqueduto das Aguas Livres.

Some other interesting city attractions include Belem Tower, the Monument to the Discoveries, Jeronimos Monastery, the Roman Theatre Museum, and the old picturesque district of Alfama. Lisbon is home to a variety of museums and galleries, pretty parks, and modern masterpieces. It offers good shopping, a great international dining scene, and a lively night life. Make sure that you experience a Fado night at least once, where you can dine whilst listening to traditional music.

Families can take the kids to the zoo, Oceanarium, and the botanical gardens.
